In search of an inspired life
Today I woke up with this soothing intensity about what it means to live inspired, and what it takes to create an inspiring life. Just as there is a process for how to live a miserable life, there is also a process for living inspired.
Most of us are familiar with the default process of living uninspired. You pay attention to authority, you obey the norms of your culture, and you follow the rules. You stay small and stagnant. You repress your rage. You go to work, drink wine, and complain about how much life sucks to other people who feel the same. In essence, you play the role you've come to mistake for your personality, and you never question its legitimacy.
You may not be your mother, but her life feels vaguely reflected in your own. When you notice, you stop yourself from thinking that way. You turn to your most immediate distraction and let the dopamine hit soothe you. After all, you’ve been rewarded for being ‘good’ your whole life.
When we live this way, we live from a template of how to be unfulfilled, uninspired, and disconnected from our body. We learned to live this way a long time ago, through the process of modeling. For you, likely this feels soul-sucking.
So you went on a journey of seeking how else to live. When we begin that journey, we discover that it's not enough to stop living the familiar way. We also have to learn how to live inspired. How to create a life of meaning, substance, curiosity, desire, alignment, engagement, and so on.
The question becomes how? That’s the line of inquiry I’ll be exploring inside myself, and out loud, over the next few months. What put words to what I'd already been sensing is Louise LeBrun’s recent, private email:
“We are indeed, remarkable Beings of pure potential. The question becomes: will we choose to engage for its expression? I do believe it to be a choice. And for those of us who are familiar with the WEL-Systems® body of knowledge, I believe we have the context, the process and the perceptual markers to make it possible for us to do so.”
One. Hundred. Percent.
After all, I am only here, having these thoughts and writing this exploration because of the impact living my life the WEL-Systems way has had on me. For that, I am eternally grateful.
The questions I have for you today are these: How do you know if you're living an inspired life? How do you defined 'inspired living' for yourself? Is it meaningful for you to consider living an inspired life? What does it take? Who do you need to choose to become? What might you need to let go of?
Our cultural conditioning compels us to stay small. Don't think for yourself. Don’t be too big. Don’t say what you’re thinking. Don’t be authentic. Don’t show up fully. Don’t tell the truth. But what if those don'ts are what's tripping you up in the creation of your meaningful life?
What if focusing the formidable power of your attention elsewhere — inside your inner cues — is the key? If so, what's the elsewhere that beckons you forward into reclaiming and living your inspired life?
Finally, what’s the process you are engaging in daily that is producing the life you are currently living? Can you identify it as a process? Or do you presuppose “it’s just the way it is”? And if that process can be learned, can it also be intentionally changed?
I don't have answers to any of these questions, but I am deeply curious about it all.
If you are, too, then I invite you to keep these in your awareness as you go through your day. If you're called to respond with what moves in you, let’s explore this together. Engaging what’s meaningful is, after all, how you change your reality to map to that which you seek to create...
