TEDtalks ~ Barry Schwartz: Using our practical wisdom
Posted by admin on December 31, 2010 at 1:45 pm
In an intimate talk, Barry Schwartz dives into the question “How do we do the right thing?” With help from collaborator Kenneth Sharpe, he shares stories that illustrate the difference between following the rules and truly choosing wisely.
As you watch and listen to this video, ask yourself:
- Do I know how to trust the truth of my own experience?
- Am I both willing and able to engage that truth, out loud?
- Do I have what it takes to live a meaningfully sustainable life, rather than one that is shaped (rewarded and punished) by external truths?
In a WEL-Systems® world, another question would be:
- Do I know and can I trust the Signal from Self, that I know mySelf to be?
Without this ability to both know and engage this internal cue, we remain captive to an externally referenced world – and that, we already know, is not working.
Barry Schwartz studies the link between economics and psychology, offering startling insights into modern life. Lately, working with Ken Sharpe, he’s studying wisdom. Full bio and more links
