TEDx Controversy: Hancock/Sheldrake

Posted by on April 21, 2013 at 9:09 pm

The following two TEDx presentations have provoked significant controversy.  Both offer significant shifts in perspective on long-held, so-called ‘realities’.  Please take a moment to explore these for yourself and consider:  how else might you choose to live YOUR life, today?

Rupert Sheldrake:  At TEDxWhitechapel on January 13, 2013, Rupert Sheldrake gave a provocative talk in which he suggests that modern science is based on ten dogmas, and makes the case that none of them hold up to scrutiny. According to him, these dogmas — including, for example, that nature is mechanical and purposeless, that the laws and constants of nature are fixed, and that psychic phenomena like telepathy are impossible — have held back the pursuit of knowledge.

Graham Hancock:  At TEDxWhitechapel on January 13, 2013, Graham Hancock gave a passionately argued talk in which he described the transformative impact that ayahuasca (containing the drug DMT) had had on him and argued that responsible adult usage of such drugs was a fundamental right. The talk was viewed more than 130,000 times on YouTube.

A New Story of the People: Charles Eisenstein

Posted by on April 6, 2013 at 12:41 pm

Our hearts know that a more beautiful world is possible; but our minds do not know how it’s possible“.

Charles Eisenstein

In this intelligent and inspiring TEDxTalk, writer and visionary Charles Eisenstein explores how we can make the transition from the old story of separation, competition and self-interest to a new Story of the People.

Charles Eisenstein is a teacher, speaker, and writer focusing on themes of civilization, consciousness, money, and human cultural evolution.

His books (The Ascent of Humanity and Sacred Economics) as well as his other essays and blog posts on web magazines have generated a vast online following; he speaks frequently at conferences and other events, and gives numerous interviews on radio and podcasts. CLEAR EVIDENCE, that when we reconsider who and what we are, ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

Posted by on March 15, 2013 at 3:33 pm

As I viewed this woman’s powerful story of discovery that “she is not her body” I wept, wept at the power and infinite creativity of the LIFE FORCE,

what she calls her “pilot light”,

if we were to work with it, versus fight against, holding on to the illusion of being our body,

Magic and transformation happens at incredible speed!

I wonder if we were willing and able to to name, claim, and choose to live differently without having to create such a devastating experience, what is possible?

As I sit here I know, ANYTHING!

What is possible?

Posted by on March 1, 2013 at 7:00 pm

What is Possible, if we were to leverage this human capability with what we choose to model and spread?

“There is no real independent self, aloof from other human beings, inspecting the world, inspecting other people. You are, in fact, connected not just via Facebook and Internet, you’re actually quite literally connected by your neurons.”

TEDMED ~ Leslie Saxon: New Medical Stories

Posted by on February 24, 2013 at 5:09 pm

The universe is constantly changing – how much we notice is shaping our reality.

TEDMEDDr. Leslie Saxon is noticing how the medical stories we live by need changing and can be changed.  In a TEDMED 2012 presentation she discusses a platform to bridge the digital divide and connect the more than 5 billion mobile phones in the world to the health ecosystem. She ponders, “Can we get eight billion hearts on speed dial?” and is working towards that goal. A member of the USC Center for Body Computing, Leslie shows the diagnostic and data potential of marrying smartphone tech with heart implants.  The stories are much bigger than that when we choose to consider living differently.

Mobile technology and sensors are creating ways to inexpensively and continuously monitor your health. Imagine your doctor calling you to schedule an appointment because the doctor knows the condition of your body.  Imagine your life when you have greater access to how  your body is changing and how the story of your life can change when you are more mindful of what your body is telling you.

EveryHeartBeat.org is creating an online platform to collect your medical information and change the health care / medical stories across the globe. This is one initiative that is changing medical stories .. there are others.   Enjoy the video and explore more at TEDMED 2012

Dr. Saxon is a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC, specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias in patients with congestive heart failure. In addition to using state-of-the-art resynchronization devices in patients with arrhythmias, such as modified pacemakers and implantable defibrillators, Dr. Saxon also collaborates with medical device companies to evaluate the latest, most innovative interventional gadgets for patients with difficult-to-treat heart failure. In 2010, Dr. Saxon formed the USC Center for Body Computing. The Center aims to accelerate the successful development of ideas and innovative products in the wireless health space through cross-disciplinary work with various USC programs in partnership with industry leaders and venture capitalists in biotechnology, telecommunications, entertainment and design. The Center collaborates with USC schools and programs including the Keck School of Medicine, Viterbi School of Engineering, School of Cinematic Arts, and the Marshall School of Business, as well as USC Stevens Institute for Innovation and the Institute for Creative Technologies. The USC Center for Body Computing is one of the most comprehensive centers for wireless health in academia. Dr. Saxon also hosts an annual Body Computing Conference which brings together leading authors and futurists as well as leaders from the fields of medicine, design, entertainment, the FDA, investment banking, and pharmaceuticals for a day of intense discussions about the nascent but exciting field of wireless physiologic monitoring. Dr. Saxon has completed over 180 publications in various medical journals and is an active member of a multitude of organizations, including the American College of Cardiology, the Heart Rhythm Society, The American Heart Association, and the Heart Failure Society of America and serves as associate editor of the Journal of Cardiac Electrophysiology.

At Long Last: Hope!

Posted by on February 22, 2013 at 12:18 pm

Louise LeBrunI am 62  years old.  I  know well, this dangerous and frighteningly life-changing frame of mind that has demanded that  men, women and children run and hide:  hide from the possibility of it, that they might not be harmed and hide themselves from the world when they have been.

As a woman, I have known, personally, the risks spoken of in this video; and for more than 25 years, I have been working with women who have been claimed in body by a wide-ranging expression of these.. and yet, have forged in mind and Spirit a new path for themselves, despite it all.

THIS is the first time… in more than 40 years of living in this paradigm of mindless brutality and violence… that I have ever heard a man claim:  this is a man’s issue; and men must take the lead.  Personally?  I KNOW THAT TO BE TRUE!

I found this video through a Facebook feed from CA James – Founder at Humanitarian Alliance Against Trafficking.  I was stunned to see that this page has 94 ‘Likes’.  In our  Justin Bieber-esq world, this number was, for me, irrefutable evidence of the degree to which we do NOT want to know; the degree to which we try so desperately to look away and, in doing so, hope that we will not become one of its victims.

I am grateful to CA James for this link.  After watching this video, for the first time in my many years, I felt hope.  Hope that men would wake up.  Hope that men would choose to take a stand for themselves; and take responsibility for ensuring that the deep slumber of brutality is shaken to its core.  Hope that the many hundreds of thousands of men who know, will find the courage to become visible and audible… in the presence of others… stand and say: ENOUGH!

It is the men who must teach theirs sons.  It is the men who must model an alternative to each other.  It is the men who must provide the leadership that redefines what power and leverage and control represent in an awakened world.

It is the men who must lead.

Today, in this moment, I am grateful.  I am hopeful.  I am deeply appreciative of the willingness of Jackson Katz,PhD and his colleagues to carve out a trail that others may choose to walk with him.  I am encouraged that other men will find their own voices.  It is not just women who have been silenced… and who have silenced themselves.

Please, share this video with the men and women in your lives.  It takes less than 20 minutes to watch it.

Visit Dr. Katz’ website.  Follow him on his Facebook page.

Engage in whatever way is meaningful to you but make yourself visible.  It takes courage to come out of the shadows.  Voice will take you there….

Louise

Evolution of Consciousness: Why should we care?

Posted by on February 18, 2013 at 10:11 am

The following TEDtalk by Graham Hancock is, I believe, an important one for us to consider.  Becoming mindful of the experience of consciousness – our own and that of others – as frameworks for our structures of reality, offer us insight into how else we might structure our world in far more meaningful and far less brutal ways.

The one distinction I would make is that in my 20+ years of working with others, there are other ways for us to access the insights and discoveries that transform consciousness, without the use of anything external to us.  We already have, within the body, what is required for us to be able to ‘see’ differently and engage new visions of ‘being’ – without having to metabolize anything other than the truth of our own experience.

In this brief presentation, Graham Hancock speaks powerfully to the great harm that we are doing to ourselves, in full ignorance of how else we might engage.  It is a personal choice; and one that can only come from being willing to pause and consider ‘How else might I choose to live MY life, today!
